2nd Syndrome (CEO Hong Woo-tae), which operates the self-storage (shared storage) Mini Storage DaLock, announced that it has opened 'DaLock Shop', a commerce channel within its official application (app), and is expanding its business beyond storage services into the distribution sector.
The DaLock Shop was promoted to provide a 'one-stop service' that allows customers who need storage space like self-storage to access all necessary services from Mini Storage DaLock, from starting their first use to organizing their belongings and completing storage. 2nd Syndrome plans to first sell 'Mini Boxes' currently available on its official Naver Smart Store, and then expand the product lineup to items like clothing covers through collaboration with 3PL (third-party logistics) companies. Furthermore, they plan to expand their product category with 'Starter Packages' targeting first-time customers.
According to 2nd Syndrome, an analysis of the item storage data of Mini Storage DaLock users using its own artificial intelligence (AI) revealed that out of 11,500 newly registered customers over the past three months, about 30% had inconsistently packed or poorly organized boxes, raising concerns of damage. Accordingly, reflecting the demands of users for packaging materials and organizing supplies, the company decided to design and provide related products themselves.
Additionally, a survey was conducted on 3,000 Mini Storage DaLock registered customers throughout the month of July. Among the total respondents, about 30%, or 1,200 customers, chose summer when asked, 'Which season of the year is self-storage needed most?'. This figure is more than four times higher than autumn (6.6%), which came in second, and it was analyzed that this is because storing and managing various items within the home alone becomes difficult due to the influence of the rainy season and hot, humid weather.
In particular, 45% of the subscribers overwhelmingly cited 'mold and odor due to the rainy season and humidity' as the difficulty they usually faced while storing and managing luggage every summer. It is expected that storing moisture-vulnerable items such as winter clothing and bedding not used in summer, as well as home appliances, will be heavily influenced by external environments like temperature and humidity, and packaging conditions.
Based on patents for self-storage operation and AIoT technology, Mini Storage DaLock is capable of real-time temperature and humidity control at branches nationwide and provides a storage environment that applies non-combustible materials and leak-proof steps. Recently, in collaboration with the Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH), it opened 10 additional SH:ARE branches across Seoul to convert vacant semi-basement houses into self-storage facilities and utilize them as local community amenities. The company explained that it is the only case among domestic shared storage companies to collaborate with government agencies.
CEO Hong Woo-tae said, "We newly opened the commerce channel to meet the rapidly increasing demand for self-storage in the summer season and to enhance customer convenience. This will serve as an opportunity for Mini Storage DaLock to accompany customers from the beginning to the end of storage, as well as to expand into a broader living infrastructure."
