Transforming the Hard-to-Live-In Semi-basement into 'Mini Storage Loft'

(Seoul = News1) Reporter Jang Do-min = Self-storage operator Second Syndrome announced on the 27th that it has opened three housing-type ‘Mini Storage Lofts’ utilizing vacant semi-basement spaces in multi-family homes.

The newly opened locations are the first examples of the 'LH Storage' project being jointly promoted by Second Syndrome and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). LH Storage converts the semi-basement spaces of purchased rental housing, which are left vacant after existing residents move to ground level, into self-storage to provide storage space for residents and nearby inhabitants.

The business target’s semi-basement vacancies were unused idle spaces that remained unoccupied after residents moved out. Second Syndrome improved these semi-basement vacancies into pleasant spaces where goods can be stored, based on its expertise in installing the most storage facilities in the country.

Additionally, in the future, it plans to utilize unmanned automation operation technologies based on IT and IoT to provide an environment where customers can safely store their belongings.

The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) shared part of the renovation costs for the installation of the locations and plans to utilize some of the profits for housing management and support for residents.

The newly opened housing-type mini storage loft locations are Ttuksom Station (Seongdong-gu Seongsu-dong), Dunchon Dong Station (Gangdong-gu Seongnae-dong), and Pungnap (Songpa-gu Pungnap-dong), all of which are located in residential areas with good accessibility, making it convenient for nearby residents and small business owners to store items.

A representative from Second Syndrome explained, "Mini Storage Loft is not only a convenience facility for residents that can substitute for limited space but also an eco-friendly facility that does not produce noise or pollution during use, so the response from local residents has been positive."

CEO Hong Woo-tae of Second Syndrome stated, "This semi-basement storage project is a meaningful example showing that the Mini Storage Loft can transform any building under a variety of environmental conditions into valuable space," and added, "We will continue to contribute to urban regeneration by adding new value to various aging idle lands in the future."
